How to Interrogate Someone Effectively

Interrogation is not only used in cop shows. Whether you are a principal asking a student about an incident, a parent questioning your child or a co-worker trying to interrogate someone effectively regarding a suspicious fax of a bare behind, there are ways to go about it like a pro.

Suggestions

  1. Go into the situation without any intimidation regarding sex, role playing or propriety. Men seem to be intimidated by the thought having to interrogate a female. As an authority figure, you must interrogate someone effectively by first preparing yourself to battle nerves and any awkwardness.
  2. Make notes before you go into the situation. Being prepared is of the utmost importance. You should have multiple facets of the story to bring to the table, and you should also have the story written down before you so that you don't get flustered or befuddled. Interrogate effectively by being able to bring your game face to the questioning.
  3.  Role play with someone close to you, and the situation to make, the interrogation go more smoothly. You can ask your questions of the proxy student or child, and ask the role player to adopt different attitudes during the interrogation. The best way to interrogate effectively is to practice different scenarios before hand.
  4. Show genuine concern for the suspected wrong doer. Whether it is a student or your child, you can't walk into the interrogation with a chip on your shoulder or an air of having already made up your mind. Interrogate effectively by allowing the innocent remain as such until all of the evidence comes in.
  5. Give your child or student some tough love. This may be difficult, but in order to interrogate him effectively, you have to be able to coddle him and question him in an intimidating manner.
  6. Interrogate a child effectively by remaining in control. No matter what kinds of things the child says to be snide or rude, let it roll off your back. Be confident that you are going to get to the bottom of it, and continue the interrogation with ease and control.
