How to Set Up an Internet Advertisement Service

Internet advertising has become one of the most popular forms of marketing, and a lot of money is directed toward the industry each year. In fact, the industry grew about 10 percent in 2009, one of the few segments of business to post strong growth despite a recession (TechCrunch). If you would like to position yourself in the Internet Advertising business, start by advertising yourself. Clients will hire you if you are successful at attracting business to your own company because this shows you can do the same for them.

Suggestions

  1. Register a business name. A business name helps you appear professional and organized. You can choose to register a fictitious name or you can incorporate your business. In either case, create a name, a logo and business cards to match.
  2. Register a domain name online. Even if you will have a storefront instead of operating online, you need to have an Internet presence. Your clients will want to see this to know you can create a presence for them, which is what they are hiring you to do.
  3.  Create a website. Since you are entering the Internet advertising business, having knowledge of websites will be a big benefit to your business. It may be best to design your own site so you can show clients your expertise. However, if you do not know how to design websites, you can hire an outside contractor to do so.
  4. Advertise your business online. Clients want to see you succeed in this method before they hire you. You can advertise by creating business listings with Google, Yelp! and other services. You can also use social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to start promoting your business. If you will help your clients purchase online advertising, you should start by purchasing ads yourself. Show your clients you know which ad placements will be best by using them to promote your business.
  5. Contact business owners. Ultimately, you may want to sell your service through in-bound marketing, where you allow clients to find you. However, to get started, you can begin contacting business owners who may benefit from your service. Try finding out where they are currently advertising, such as a billboard, and show them how you can offer them something cheaper and more efficient.

Tip

  • Internet advertising is a lucrative industry, but it is highly competitive and requires a solid knowledge of good advertising principles. If you have no background in this field, you may need to obtain a degree or experience prior to starting a successful business.
