All states require corporations to submit articles of incorporation, as a condition of operating an incorporated business. You can get a copy of the articles of incorporation by contacting the state where the corporation was formed. In some instances, a copy of the articles of incorporation can be obtained by contacting the business or a third party that submitted the articles of incorporation to the state.
Step 1:  Contact the appropriate Secretary of the State's office. The office where the corporation filed its articles of incorporation will be able to provide copies.

Step 2:  Complete a request form. A form to request a copy of the articles of incorporation may be provided on the Secretary of State's website. Provide information including the name of the company and date of incorporation, as well as the name and address of the person requesting a copy of the articles of incorporation.

Step 4:  Pay applicable fees. The fees to get copies of articles of incorporation vary from state to state. Generally, certified copies of articles of incorporation cost more than plain paper copies. Certified copies of articles of incorporation include the corporate seal on the documents.
