What Computer Accounting Programs are You Familiar With?
It is a good idea to mention every kind of accounting software platform you have used throughout your career as opposed to just mentioning the ones you are most familiar with. In most cases, a company will not have a problem retraining you on a platform that you have worked with in the past. But if you have no experience at all with the software that the company uses, then that may be a challenge.
What Types of Accounting Reports have You Prepared in the Past?
If you have done your research on this company and the position you are interviewing for, then you will have a basic idea of what kind of accounting information and reports will be pertinent to your position. For example, if the job is in the payroll department, you will be dealing in salary and benefits reports. When you have a general idea of what the interviewer is looking for in advance, you can create an answer that highlights specific examples that will be relevant to the position.
What New Trends in Accounting do You Find Interesting?
Employers want to be sure that their accounting staff is up to date on the latest accounting trends, and that the staff knows how to obtain information on the trends that are coming in the future. If there are no present accounting trends that apply to the specific position you are interviewing for, then discuss any major developments that have occurred in accounting recently. These can be new tax codes and how they affect corporations, or new payroll accounting processes that are becoming popular.
What Volume of Work are You Accustomed To?
When you get this question, it may not be this vague. For example, the interviewer may ask you about the most bank accounts you have ever had to reconcile in a month, or what the largest payroll was you had to administer. These volume questions are designed to see if you have the experience in dealing with the demands of the workload that the company knows it will be placing on you if you get the position.
