Getting New Patients For Your Dental Practice

According to Marketing for Dental Specialists, 25 percent of your marketing efforts should be focused on attracting new patients to your dental practice. While your main focus should be on retaining current patients, new ones will fill the gaps left by those who move or switch dentists for another reason. You can get new patients in a variety of ways, ranging from traditional advertising to referrals and community service.

Some Suggestions

  1. Offer a special for new patients who come to your dental practice for the first time. For example, you can give them an examination, X-rays and cleaning for a discounted price. Advertise this special in the local newspaper and mailers that go out in the neighborhoods surrounding your practice.
  2. Reward current clients who refer new patients to your practice. Give them a small item, such as a gift card, for each family member or friend they refer to you. Extend a special offer to the referred patient, such as a discount on the initial examination and cleaning
  3. Give educational speeches in your community on dental hygiene and related topics. This will build awareness of your practice and build a perception that you are an expert. Speak to school classes, clubs, service groups and other organizations and pass out your business card at the end of the speech.
  4. Advertise in the local Yellow Pages, and have a website for your dental practice. You should make it as easy as possible for potential new patients to find you in the phone book or online once they hear about you through a friend or attend one of your educational lectures.
  5. Sign up with a referral service like 1800dentist.com. These services are free to people seeking a new dentist, but you must pay for the referrals. Because they are matched up with your practice based on their needs, insurance and other factors, they have a good likelihood of becoming regular patients.
