How to Create Wedding Planning Timelines

Planning a wedding is a wonderful experience but also one that can be very time consuming and overwhelming. With so many things to do and remember it is helpful to have a checklist of things that need to be done. This is even better when it's arranged by the date by which they need to be completed. That way you stay on track with everything and can be sure all your items have been completed so you can have the wedding of your dreams with half the stress. Making a wedding planning timeline is easy and worth the time to sit down and put together because it will end up saving you tons of time and frustration later.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Printer
  • Calendar
  • Internet
  • Notepad  and Pen
  • Word processing program
  • Stapler or tape

Suggestions

  1. Make a list of everything you need for the wedding, need to look into, schedule, or plan. To make sure you get everything look at some of the checklists on the sites in the resources section.
  2. Mark your wedding date on your calendar. Count backwards to the current date to see how many weeks you have until your wedding. Open a word processing program on your computer.
  3. Create a new document and title it "wedding planning timeline." Set the page layout to be landscape style so it runs horizontal not vertical. Create a table with invisible lines, have at least twenty rows and five columns to each. Make bold headings across the top line with a countdown of months and weeks until the wedding.
  4. Create a new heading every month until you reach two months and then go every two weeks until one month and then week by week. List the date of the week beside the "6 weeks until" title. Put the date in a colored font so it stands out.
  5. Fill in the information for what you need to do under each heading. For example, "order the cake" should be done sometime between two and three months ahead of time. For assistance in determining the length of time when you need to do things look at the website listed in the resources section.
  6. Print out all the pages. Lay them out in order then tape the pages together in a long row or staple them together. Post on a wall you look at often so you will remember what to do and stay on schedule.

Other Tips

  • Customize the timeline to fit your wedding schedule, if you're getting married in six weeks everything will of course have be expedited but if you have three years you can take more time; make it work for you.
  • Don't leave items off because you don't think you need or want them, include them any ways because you may change your mind or have something come up.
